Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Creating inclusive cultures that support great results – the value of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)

‘We don’t have a problem with diversity, our managers aren’t biased, they just hire the best people for the job’, is something we hear regularly from some of the businesses we come across. To achieve the best results, an approach like this just won’t work.

While diversity is something that exists, inclusion is something that is active. At HEX, we think of the act of inclusion as a verb, and something to be driven purposefully. It takes time, effort, and intention, but it isn’t fluffy or instead of high performance.

An inclusive culture is essential for creating a thriving, high-performing organisation in today's diverse and interconnected world. It fosters employee engagement, drives innovation, enhances customer satisfaction, and strengthens the company's reputation. Investing in an inclusive culture is therefore not just the right thing to do but also a smart business decision that pays dividends in various ways.

We help improve cultures by building inclusive leaders

Lots of factors influence the level of inclusion in an organisation, but we believe the most important to be leaders. EDI initiatives are great, as are events that celebrate difference, but the real magic comes from leaders who value and drive inclusion from the top to the bottom of the organisation.

Inclusive leaders are curious, compassionate, and listen effectively. They recognise that they are always learning and consciously take action to support everyone in their teams to bring all their strengths to their work.

We work with leaders to reflect on their purpose and question why inclusion is important to them. We help them to examine their biases, and privilege, and see inclusion not just from an identity perspective but in terms of strengths and cognition. We look at what makes a great culture, demonstrating the power of connection, authenticity, and vulnerability to build psychological safety. We also get them curious about their team, decipher terminology language and build their confidence to challenge non-inclusive behaviours.
